I would recommend this, if only because it was a challenge. I was annoyed by how hard it was. I mean, the controls seemed too complicated. I wish it was more straightforward. Then again, I don't want it to be too easy. I didn't even notice the timer at first.

I thought that you were supposed to collect the kiwi. I guess I just ran out of time right as I did. Whatever, this was a bit too complicated. As I've said before, I would have to mess with it to really understand it. It wasn't too rewarding.

kaiakairos responds:

The idea is that the runs are so short, it’s easy to learn from your mistakes and hop into a new one with your newfound knowledge. It's hard as hell, yes, but easy to learn once you give it a few tries. This was intentional design.
I can tell by your score on the scoreboard that you only made it past the tutorial, died immediately, and then didn't even bother trying again. I've seen IGN reviewers try harder than you.

I think the rating should be higher. I mean, it's not the best game out there. It's perfectly serviceable. I knew it would get a lot harder later on. I was really stuck when I ran out of charges. I can't play this game forever!

Yes, it was simple but good. The graphics were indeed nice. I'm surprised I got past the first appearance of the spikes. I'm glad there was a full screen option. I even thought the music was pretty good.

ChimeraDev responds:

Thanks for playing! The game is around 40 minutes the first time you play it! Its quite hard but it's fun to try again! Hope to see you finish it eventually! :)

Well, the game was definitely playable. I just had no idea how to get a single gem or anything like that. It reminded me of the "Crash Bandicoot" games. I never could get all the boxes done! I didn't even realize there was a timer. Ignorance truly was bliss in that case.

The game was too easy with that gameplay. The extra stuff was quite hard though. You deserve some credit for that, I suppose. The graphics were decent. It was kind of too simple and too hard somehow.

blit-blat responds:

Too simple and too hard at the same time is the absolute sweet spot! There's a walkthrough here if you need it:

Thanks for playing! :)

Well, that delivered on what it was supposed to. That secret medal was far easier than I thought. I mean, what else were you supposed to do? Of course I noticed it sold 420,000 copies. I'm glad there was music. I mean, what else do you need to do?

There's tons of YouTube videos where it's nothing but a blank screen with a song. You knew how to spice it up. I now noticed the 69 number. Dang, you noticed how to use your numbers! Well, there's not much else to notice in this.

Little-Rena responds:

Nice

This game was fairly addictive. I will admit it could get kind of annoying, but I got used to it. The graphics were so simplistic, yet it was still very hard! Those big meteors got really annoying. It was hard to tell what I was supposed to collect and what was a projectile. Yeah, it could have been more detailed.

The sound effects seemed rather suiting. I didn't know you'd have a fairly high variety of enemies. There was certainly a lot going on. The little round guys were the most annoying. They were the first enemies to actually fire at you. It was as fun as I thought.

KilledByAPixel responds:

thanks for the review!

I liked this game a lot! I thought it was very impressive with how you had no idea what enemies would appear next. Medals always motivate me! The music was great now that I listen closely to it. I thought I'd be able to beat at least one boss. This was just a great game.

I don't know how these levels, or rather rooms work. I'm sure they're all random. It gave me a great sense of exploration. I'd think a game with shells would feature Mario. It's fun in any way.

HelperWesley responds:

Glad you enjoyed it. The rooms should really have some kind of portal or smoke effect at the doors, because they are completely randomized each time you walk in to a new room. πŸ˜…

The shells was meant to be for bullet shells, but it does sound like a Mario thing. πŸ€”

Wow, this is just a demo? I'm very impressed! Yay, a green Kirby! I appreciate the fine detail for Pixel Day. I would probably give a full score when the full game comes out. I don't see how I couldn't!

I was expecting some enemies. You didn't even need any! The game was already hard enough. I didn't realize I could press the W to go under a door. The music's fine too.

LeviRamirez responds:

Give me about 2 years and I'll be expecting a PERFECT score on Steam when it comes out, lol

Glad you liked it! Thanks for the kind words :-)

I liked this game a lot! I wasn't expecting a squid to appear of all things. It seems like all squids are like Cthluhu now. I appreciated how good the graphics were. I didn't even see the red dots at first. It took me awhile to get the hang of it.

I couldn't find the shop where you upgraded. Thank you for including footage of the awesome gameplay! I love how fast paced you can make it. Oh, I guess squids are related to oil, which cards run on. It's still a weird association.

jefvel responds:

Thanks! Yeah, there's not workshop yet. But it's a planned feature! Also it just accidentally became a squid, since my placeholder character sort of looked like one :)

I found myself enjoying this. It may not have been that well detailed, but it was certainly quite fun. Wow, you added medals fast. I assume a 30 is when you get the medal. I got close at 28. I didn't even know how to collect those things at first.

I admit I was annoyed at how the dialogue was repeated. I never had problems with air. It was pretty easy to just avoid stuff if you wanted to. At that fast a rate, you can get lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view). It does a lot with its simplicity.

critatonic responds:

I was able to update it so the dialogue is skipped when you reset, thanks for the feedback.

I'm sorry, but this just looked really cheap. It looks like something from 2000. I do find it funny how you get expelled for giving someone the finger. I mean, you set stuff on fire and shot stuff! It was obviously inspired by Pico. A ton of stuff here is Pico anyway.

Dang, I need to look at the audio credits! Then I would have known it was Pico music! I am impressed by the high score. This is just my opinion that it's bad. At least nostalgia is good.

NevaZ0r responds:

the game wasn't inspired by Pico actually lol, there is an easter egg from Pico's school in the game (which is where the pico music is used) but the game was actually inspired by School posters they used to hang in classrooms like "Rules of being a good listener"

I am one of the most prolific reviewers on this website and even on the Internet! I am proud to be such a huge fan of this website!
