I have to give you credit for at least being honest. I didn't understand how this was supposed to be appealing. I suggest that next time, you have a background. Lacking one is rarely, if ever, good for a popular cartoon. The animation could have also been a lot better. Then again, I'm guessing that might have been part of the appeal.

It reminds me of stuff like the asdf series. I don't even know what a garelaf is. I thought it might have had something to do with Super Smash Bros, if only because the segment with that was the longest there. It probably wasn't intended to be anything good. You succeeded in that, at least.

AfroTwist responds:

Well, you're not exactly a part of the target audience, to put it like that.

I didn't think this was as good as the first entry, but it was still very fun. I think its strongest point is probably how the animation is as awesome as ever. It's funny, because when he mentioned an English criminal ghost, I thought he was going to say Jack The Ripper. When he didn't and then he did, boy was I amazed. I loved the running gag of the explosion. That ending seemed to come out of nowhere, too.

I think it's interesting to introduce rivals to the main characters. I just loved the transition effects in this, especially with how the book moved. The animation kind of reminds me of "Adventure Time". Geez, I need to start watching that show. It's just fun from beginning to end.

CorneliusToots responds:

Thanks for the very constructive feedback, that was awesome! Glad you enjoyed it still. :) Adventure Time is absolutely one of our influences.

Ha ha, this is probably my second favorite submission for Madness Day 2012. It was funny when Tricky showed up and he just got defeated so easily. It was so great how there was constant violence going on. It was just awesomeness from beginning to end. Some of it I did not understand, but it's still masterfully done. The best part is how you get to see that funny face the whole time.

Are the other characters just not able to see or talk? The music was as appropriate as anything else for this. You obviously put some dedication into this. It's good to see all the zany stuff going on. It's great to see people still dedicated to this.

Ellvis responds:

ho ho thank you for this nice review :)

I admit that I wasn't too interested in this at first, but it certainly got better! It's the best submission I've seen for Madness Day 2012! What really makes it so cool is how awesome the designs are. You truly have no idea whatsoever what crazy thing is going to pop up next in this. It doesn't help that I barely remember the previous entries. It's still great to see all this crazy stuff going on.

It's weird, because you really have created a unique design for the characters themselves. They seem to be more round and have a darker outline. The sounds and everything else sync up so well. It's great to see your work again. Oh, and Happy Madness Day 2012!

Alpha-Nuva responds:

Yeah, I made the lines bolder and stylized them. Looks a like a heavily-inked comic book style, which I really dig.

Wow, this was one messed up submission, even for you. It's funny, because it actually might have worked out better if you had made it more zany. I was expecting some supernatural creature to appear in this. Whatever this thing is about, it's completely mad. That being said, at least it had all the great animation you are known for. There are so many transvetities out there.

Or transsexuals, or whatever these people are. I appreciate you always looking for something new and ridiculous in your submissions. This was just so insane, I don't even know where to begin. It reminds me about how I have a pimple on my lip. Don't worry, I'm too lonely to get an STD.

Sexual-Lobster responds:

i'm sorry to hear that ericho, but i'm going to have to deduct two stars off my review of your review because you shared too much personal information and used the word zany in a non pejoratve way. 3/5.

It's so good to see you continuing to make awesome flashes. This worked out so well because everything was just so awesome. If you're going to make something great, make it as insane as possible! I can understand why you have all these crazy things going on. I think my favorite part was the butt laser. I am becoming more familiar with these characters.

The animation and live-action effects are as fantastic as ever. I imagine if it was a tad longer, I would have liked it even more. It's so great to see someone so talented get publicity like this. There's just so many things going on. That voice is crazy.

teaandcheese responds:

Wow, thanks very much :D

Thanks again!

It's great that I finally get to look at the first submission of Madness Day 2012. What's also cool is that this actually marks the fourth year anniversary of me signing up for this website! It was total coincidence that I first came here at that time. This was interesting, because it had a really unpredictable ending. You make a good point, bigger stuff tends to be bulkier. The sounds synched up well too.

It's a pity you weren't able to use the Madness Day 2012 logo. Tom Fulp showed me that on the forums. It's funny to see that one guy at the end with stars circling his head. Better for stars to circle your head than to have your head blown off. I love how quickly he responded.

GabrielBarsch responds:

btw...today marks the fifth year anniversary of me in this site, and actuallym the real first submition of madness day 2012 was madness revistered by erixs

I thought this was a really weird cartoon, but still good. I was expecting more people to show up that were actually made of chess pieces. It still turned out to be surreal. I must not have been following closely, because there seemed to be a lot of inconsistencies, like how the main character as alone at first but then he had henchman. You really do have some morally ambiguous characters. It's great to see how far you have come.

If you get a bad grade on this, just show your teacher the score this movie got. Come on, they will have to think the way everyone else does. It's always great to have a lot of voice actors. I think the character designs were really neat, because they seemed to contrast so well. It's nice to see the same artist have such a variety of designs.

kmau responds:

More chess people will show up eventually but not all at once. I don't quite get what you mean with the henchmen. The three Madhats weren't associated with the protagonist if you thought that.
I already graduaded before uploading the movie to Newgrounds but don't worry, I received a good grade. :P

I think this was probably one of your least good submissions, but it's still well done. It's mostly because you spend so much using art shifts. I couldn't help but think this was done as part of a contest or something. It seemed so random, it was like it was part of making a cartoon in only 24 hours or something. It seems like a lot of my favorite artists are making popular short things nowadays. The voices were really cool too.

It's great because you have no idea what's going to happen next. Heck, you have no idea what's going on RIGHT NOW. This is an insane cartoon that's worth checking out. It was even insane by your standards, and you've done some wild stuff. It always helps to experiment!

Sexual-Lobster responds:

this review started off harsh, but ended on a positive note. it was more focused than your usual stream of consciousness material.

i give it 3/5.

ps what's an art shift?

cheers ericho.
