I hate to say that I couldn't get anywhere with this. I did the exact combination as shown on the walkthrough and it didn't work. Oh well, it's nothing that unique. I know how to use the music. I guess this is different from what you've done before.

You've made so many games it's hard to remember. I managed to get about a minute done of material here. At least I tried. These games were never really for you. I'm sure other people enjoy them.

selfdefiant responds:

Yep, people love them!

I really do feel bad for myself as I'm not interested in the story. It seems too massive for me. I can still give you credit for having a great design. The mood is set up quite well. You should be able to figure it out on your own. I like the music.

Once again, you have a lot of different songs. It is hard to tell all of them apart, though. I like this ongoing story. I'm glad it wasn't an RPG. I'm just no good at those.

JackAstral responds:

Your reviews are weird lol

I admit that I'm not a fan of text games, but this was quite fun. I really did have no idea what was going on. You create such a great atmosphere. It's hard to say anything about the details. It has exactly what it needs. The music is great.

It was easy to get past the first one. I just put down "I Understand". It says so on the medal. It doesn't do that for the second part. For people who are into text games, play this.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thank you, Ericho!
Yeah, I get that text-based games are not for everybody, but I'm glad that you enjoyed this game regardless :)
I am a huge fan of games with just the right atmosphere, so I try to achieve something to that effect as well. After all, composing music is the main thing I do :)

Yeah, the first part is mostly there in order for the player to get used to the mechanics. After that, the difficulty has an immediate increase :)

Thanks for encouraging others to try out the game :3

I can see why this is the lowest ranked submission on this ludum dare. It's mostly because I don't know how to play it! I've tried pressing all keys and nothing works. There are no instructions in the author comments. From what I've seen on the menu, it looks fine. I just have to go neutral on this.

The sounds I did hear aren't bad. It's just weird how few of the submissions have scores at all. This doesn't have a low score at all, of course. I'm glad that it works for a few people. At least it looks unique.

HawkSandwich responds:

Hey, I appreciate your in depth review :D
First off, there's a "How to Play" menu right in the main menu, but I suppose it didn't stick out enough, as a few people have had trouble with the controls in the past.
As for "ranking", the last Ludum Dare didn't have an official ranking system like all ones previous to it, due to PoV not being able to run Ludum Dare this time around. Instead, we're just using Feedback Friends.
And lastly, thanks for the comment on the art syle :D

I didn't know this would be an RPG. I am not a fan of those. I still liked this game. Damn, you got a lot of voice actors. Even DoctorStrongBad was a beta tester! The sprite work is amazing.

I just wish there weren't so many cutscenes. I know to expect that in an RPG. I was just hoping for a straight shooter. It's still great to look at. The order the story is told is weird, but it's still enjoyable.

MetaMike responds:

Well if you ever return to play it again rest easy knowing you can skip nearly all of them. Also that's one of the things I'm pretty happy about when it comes to part 2, now that the main characters and main plot is established I can get right into the action with part 2, it definitely won't be as cutscene heavy.

This was better than I thought. I guess it's mostly because the secret medals were quite easy to get. You just play the game normally. I know I've played something like this before. It could just be deja vu. The graphics are pretty good.

It is hard to really advance. Well, I got some stuff anyways! It could probably use more detail. I guess I'd have to comprehend it more. I still recommend it.

Skudge responds:

Thank you! I definitely could have polished it a bit more and added some actual tutorial stuff but I wanted to be done before the end of the month. Glad you like it!

This was quite an impressive game! My only problem was that it was hard to understand at first. I don't use many combos. Why do I raise a shield when I click "K" instead of kicking? Oh yeah, "K" for kick! This was a very cool game.

It's mostly because of the variety of enemies. I especially like the green blob things. I don't know how to beat those black ball things. Oooh, that sounds dirty. The sounds were great too.

genevrarose responds:

Haha, thanks a ton!
Glad you enjoyed it. To beat the 'black balls' ;) you need to jump up into the air and use an air attack with either J or K. May need to smack them a few times.

Glad you enjoyed. C:

When I saw the name, I thought of something really dirty. It turned out pound was actually the cat's name. Then I played the game and thought it was too cute. Yep, it was obscene after all! the details weren't that good. It certainly got better.

I guess the setup of the game is really good. You really have no clue what will happen next. I didn't even know it would be about a cat. It's a puss in every sense of the word. Well, not in the cowardly sense.

OrangePylon responds:

That jerking back and forth in tone at the beginning was intentional, to lull the player into a false sense of comfort, and once they let their guard down, they're greeted with... puss.

Thanks for the nice review, friend! I appreciate it.

I feel bad for liking everything that has easy medals. I guess it is fun just to get easy stuff. You should have put some music in. These might be the easiest medals I've ever found in any game! Does the game ever end? You can't reach the end of the world.

I know these numbers don't exist. Seriously, check out what those real numbers are! A thousand times a trillion is a quadrillion. The colors are nice and bright. It's just too easy.

Alon-Tzarafi responds:

Yeah I know all of that and the numbering scheme is pretty much made up, because the numbers and scale don't really have too much meaning in this context right?
I just wanted to poke some fun at game developers who make headlines by bragging about their game's enormous size. Especially since... you know, mine is obviously bigger!

I admit that I wasn't really into this game much at first, but I still liked it. It's mostly because it's fairly simple to understand. I like how the villains are so unique. You got a good variety with your enemies. The most annoying ones were probably the ghosts. They just ran at you so much.

The sounds are great too. The graphics are bright and colorful. It doesn't have much in terms of backgrounds. I was surprised at all the medals. You just have to keep beating the game over and over.

krajzega responds:

You're probably right about the medals! I'll see if I can fit a few more that don't require a full playthrough.

EDIT: I did add two medals in a different vein - the 32kb PICO-8 cartridge can't take anymore, though :).
